| Full Text | This chapter, rooted in the US tradition, is based on the notion that assessment needs to be an integral part of the design of instruction. The authors provide suggestions for planning assessment and describe a variety of assessment techniques and procedures that can be used for classeroom-based assessment, e.g. observation, conferences, student journals, language tests, student portfolios, narrative records and checklists. The chapter is particularly useful for teachers who are not necessarily well-versed in the area of assessment and evaluation.
